‘Tis The Season

You better watch out, you better not cry.

Every year I make a vow with myself that, despite the local soft-rock stations’ need to force it on us ever-earlier, I’m not going to listen to any Christmas music until, at the absolute earliest, December 1st.

He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice. He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice.

Here in the tech room, though, the contemporary sounds of Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, and Josh Groban have been crooned out since the second week of November. Huzzah.

Santa Claus is coming to town.

I’m all for change, but whatever happened to the real Christmas anthems? I want Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney. Ok, so I have a soft spot for Wonderful Christmas Time. Sue me. At this point, I’d even take I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas. Sure, there are classics slipped in between revamped studio-pop covers of Little Drummer Boy and new favorites like Same Old Lang Syne (don’t even get me started), but they’re definitely in the minority. I guess it’s just another notch in the belt of diminished childhood nostalgia. Makes me wonder what my kids are going to remember listening to, if not Holly Jolly Christmas.

Alas, in these dark times, Apple has reportedly ordered 13.3″ LED backlit screens from screen manufacturers Kenmos Technology. Does this mean that the next revision of MacBook will indeed come equipped with an LED LCD, or is the MacBook already being discontinued in favor of the Ultra Portable? As always, Apple is pretty tight-lipped about the next machine, but you can find more information at www.macrumors.com. It’s been said that the new machines will be announced as early as mid-January. Can’t wait. It just started snowing here in Kansas City, so I’m going to make some hot chocolate, build a fire, and throw on a Burl Ives record. Happy Holidays, everybody.

Have a holly jolly Christmas, it’s the best time of the year.
