The most popular kinds of iOS apps

Apple's mobile devices, the iPhone and the iPad, offer so much functionality, but neither would be very noteworthy without apps. After all, think about how you use your beloved mobile device. Chances are, apps are central to what you do.

When many people think about apps, images of games like Angry Birds often first come to mind. This is especially true when thinking about how younger folks use their iPhones and iPads, but recent research suggests otherwise.

What the numbers actually reveal
According to Flurry Analytics, here are the apps people between 25 and 34 are more likely to use than older folks:

  • Younger people are more than twice as likely to use sports, health and fitness apps than the average American. Within this age group, women are more than twice as likely to use these kinds of apps than men are
  • This age group is approximately 75 percent more likely to use music and entertainment apps, about 50 percent more likely to use lifestyle and shopping apps and close to 20 percent more likely to use photo sharing and social media apps than the rest of the demographics studied
  • Younger people didn't dominate all the usage categories, as this group was less likely to utilize productivity apps, play mobile games or read the news via a designated app than others

“In particular, it's females ages 25 to 34 who dramatically over-index in the Sports, Health and Fitness category, spending over 200 percent more time in these apps than the rest of the population because of what appears to be a greater interest in self-improvement (or at least, using apps to help them with that goal),” TechCrunch contributor Sarah Perez wrote about the study. “They also – stereotypically – turn towards lifestyle and shopping apps more so than men, where they spend 75 percent more time than the rest of the population. Males, meanwhile, over-index in music, media and entertainment, as well as social and photo-sharing, while under-indexing in news and magazines.”

No matter how you slice it, though, app use is up across the board among all age ranges. That means more people than ever are applying their thumbs and fingerprints to touchscreens than ever before – and with far greater frequency. As a result, the likelihood of one of these devices breaking unexpectedly is also greater than ever. Luckily, you can always turn to iResQ's iPhone repair and iPad repair services to limit the amount of time you spend away from your favorite apps.
