I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. We certainly did here at iResQ and we’re back at it, as busy as ever. Apple keeps selling more of their products and we keep getting more repairs in. Makes sense.
The latest phenomenon we’ve seen around the office is an increase in the iPod Touch 4th Generation screen repairs. Something must have happened nation-wide that caused all the iPod Touches to break at once… Conspiracy theorists? After talking to a few customers, I might have figured it out:
It seems that the iPod Touch was a real hit this year as a holiday gift, especially for young ones. I know that my (almost) 5-year old niece got a Touch from Santa and uses it to make videos of herself singing, among other things. I don’t need to go into that story further, but let’s just say that Santa almost messed up and got a Nano and that just wouldn’t have worked out for her. Unfortunately, a lot of these little ones have had trouble holding onto the iPods and they have broken the screens. My niece hasn’t cracked hers yet, but it’s only a matter of time. It happens, and there’s something about Apple products — when you have one, even for a short amount of time, it’s hard to live without them!
I’m told that a 64gb iPod Touch when taken to the Apple store for repair is somewhere in the neighborhood of $199 plus tax. Given all the above information, I can certainly see why we’re getting so many iPod Touches in for repair, since we charge half that ($100 currently) for that iPhone Touch 4th Generation screen/glass/digitizer repair, and even less for older models. We also repair just about every other Apple product in existence for much less than typical repair pricing or replacement costs.
It’s a tragedy when these devices get damaged, and especially heartbreaking when a child has to experience the horror first hand. If it happens to you or someone you know, you know what to do! (Hint)
