Right to Repair Legislature Process

iPhone / iPad

‘Right to Repair’ is gaining popularity, and we wanted to share with you what has been going on right now. Many states are attempting to have legislation vote in favor of ‘Right to Repair.’ This would give repair shops access to parts and service manuals for Apple products, so they are able to repair them just as Apple does right now.

The people for this legislation want it to happen because they believe that repair shops should be able to repair their devices with OEM parts instead of generic ones.

Apple doesn’t want this to happen because they monopolize on the cost of repairs for MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, and iPods because they know owners can’t get the OEM parts from anywhere else. If ‘Right to Repair’ passes, repair shops can offer it and they can do it for a better price.

Right now, these states are the states are currently looking to pass ‘Right to Repair’ legislation.

  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • North Carolina
  • Nebraska
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Oklahoma
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • Vermont
  • Washington

As you can see, Kansas is on this list, so we of course want this legislation to pass. This would enable us to provide even more than we already do for our customers.

We do want to say that while this would be great for us, what we offer now isn’t low quality. We always use the VERY best in parts when we do repairs. We never buy the lowest quality parts just so we can make more money off our repairs. We know this could end up limiting the longevity of our repairs, and we’re not willing to do that to our customers.

Do we think OEM parts are better than non-OEM? Not really. Some people prefer OEM parts just because they feel better that the parts are the same as the ones that came in their devices originally. As we all know, OEM parts’ longevity isn’t fail proof, or well, they wouldn’t need repairs, especially when it’s case where it’s not damage but simple malfunctioning.

So, even though this may pass and it may be something we do when it does, that doesn’t downgrade what we do now. We still stand fully behind the parts we use in all of our repairs and will always stand behind it.
