Be careful not to drop your new iPhones, as recent drop tests have shown that both the 5S and the 5C are both fairly susceptible to scuffs and screen cracks, which means that a case of the butterfingers could leave you looking for iPhone screen repair services. The first drop test was performed by Android Authority researchers, who took to the streets of Hong Kong to test the durability of the new iPhones.
The 5S had fairly solid performance, with only a few minor, hardly noticeable scuff marks after suffering drops on its side, back and screen-first. Most importantly, the glass didn't crack or shatter when dropped.
However, the 5C didn't perform as well. The plastic in which the 5C hardware is encased isn't nearly as sturdy as the 5S metal casing. This led to the 5C screen becoming cracked really easily, even though the outer casing came out of the drops with little to no damage.
Another drop test was performed by SquareTrade and found that both the 5S and 5C aren't nearly as durable as the first-generation iPhone 5 was.
SquareTrade put both phones through rigorous testing, including being slid across counters, dropped from chest level and splashed with water. The insurance company gave the 5C a score of 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest risk of damage, and the 5S received a score of 5.5, both of which are higher than the iPhone 5, which was rated a 5.
Both models struggled in the sliding test, especially the 5C due to its plastic case that reduces grip. However both performed better in the SquareTrade tests than the Galaxy S4, which rated a 7.
So be careful when handling those new iPhones to make sure that you don't wind up with a cracked screen or busted outer case. But if you do, send them to iResQ's skilled technicians to have them fixed up in no time.
