If you've kept that MacBook screen on too bright a setting, left it plugged in all the time, or done any other of the litany of things known to shorten battery life, then you might be in the market for a Chug Plug. Debuting at the recent CES in Vegas, the Chug Plug is an external power source that acts as a portable outlet by latching on to your battery pack, which basically means that you still have to carry the charger around, but plug it into the Chug instead of the wall. In addition to giving you an extra 2 to 3 hours of juice, the Chug Plug works to charge your computer as well.
If you're not willing to fork over the $159 but also want to prevent a MacBook repair, make sure to follow certain precautions in caring for your battery:
1. Keep the brightness on the lowest setting that's comfortable for you.
2. Be sure to adjust your Energy Saver settings (under System Preferences) so that your computer sleeps when idle. In addition to turning off your screen that'll also shut off the backlight, which is another energy drainer.
3. Take fewer selfies with your iSight camera. The camera is a notorious energy sucker.
