New touch technology for Apple’s next iPhone

How-to Repairs

A new report from Chinese news source the China Times indicated that Apple is in the testing stages of new touchscreen technology from Taiwanese company Chimei Innolux. The new technology uses IGZO display technology, which was earlier rumored to be used in Apple's next iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.

A report from GottaBeMobile explained that the new technology will likely assist Apple in keeping the device displays as thin as possible and resolve issues coming up in the current iPhone 5 model. The current in-cell technology used for the iPhone 5 can sometimes stop registering touches and swipes if there is a lot of diagonal movement.

AppAdvice reported that complaints about touch sensitivity and interference problems with Apple's current in-cell technology has prompted the company to investigate different options for its next models.

“Innolux's touch-on-display technology boasts both thinness and toughness in addition to better touch sensitivity than most other touch panel designs,” Aldrin Calimlim reported for AppAdvice. “Should Apple's testing of this technology yield favorable results, Innolux is likely to become a key part in the iDevice maker's supply chain.”
