If your iPhone is the last thing you check before falling asleep at night and the first thing you check when you wake up in the morning, you are not alone. According to a recent infographic by Online Psychology Degree, 90 percent of 18 to 29 year-olds sleep with their smartphones.
The infographic pointed out that exposure to electronic displays suppresses melatonin, making it harder to fall asleep. Nonetheless, 95 percent of people use their phone for something in the hour before bed. Half of people will also check their phone if they wake up in the middle of the night for no reason, and one in 10 report waking up at least a few times a week from phone calls, texts or emails. Online Psychology Degree suggested that these changes may be making people drowsier and more sleep deprived.
However, it may be possible to sleep better with an iPhone handy as well. Mashable profiled a series of apps designed to improve sleep with features such as ambient noise, alarms and sleep diaries. One of the apps mentioned is called Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock, which will track your movement while you sleep and wake you during your lightest sleep phase to help you wake up feeling rested.
