iPhone and iPad Scam Alert – Freezing and Demanding Money to Fix

iPad /

There’s a virus infecting iPhones and iPads that everyone needs to be aware of before losing $80. The iPhone or iPad will freeze, and then an alert comes up that looks like this:

When the number is called, someone tells callers that they must pay $80 to fix the problem or all of their personal data will be stolen. So far, most people are paying the money, which is a shame.

If you haven’t been a victim yet, you can now avoid it.

  • Don’t call the number.
  • Put your iPhone or iPad into Airplane mode.
  • You can then go into Safari and erase all of your browsing history.
  • That should remove the virus and the alert, and you won’t have to worry about it anymore.

In the future, just know that you will never have to call a phone number to get your device fixed. You should never give your debit or credit card number to someone you do not know. If you ever see an odd alert on your phone, do not follow the instructions. Instead, take your iPhone or iPad to a professional for advice.

If you live near the iResQ iPhone/iPad repair shop, bring it in so we can look into what is going on with it. If you don’t, feel free to contact us with your questions. We would rather you turn to us than turn to scammers who are looking to steal your money and possibly your identity.
