When parents decide to buy their kids a tablet, they often think about iPad, Kindle, or Android. These are the three most popular ones that kids have right now, so that makes sense. To decide, there are a few factors you should consider.
Parental Controls
This is of course one of the most important factors. The tablet you choose should have good content filtering and parental management features. The iPad has these built in, and Kindle and Android both have apps that can be installed that work just as well. What you need to consider is whether you want to deal with a third-party app or just trust the device to do it for you.
Mobile Power
Kids are active, so they want to bring their tablet with them. This means that they can’t be tired to a charging cord. The Kindle has the best battery power for mobile. The Android is second best and then the iPad has the least amount of time. If your child tends to want to carry its most prized possessions, the Kindle is for him or her.
Kiddie Style
Android has a kid style tablet. It has only kid apps on it and it has a durable cover. You may want that for your child if he or she is a toddler. However, as kids get older, they will want other apps and they may not be able to get that with the kid one. Since most kids don’t grow tired of the tablet, it might be in your best interest to purchase a regular tablet, iPad or Kindle Fire.
Storage
The Kindle has the most storage. This is probably because it has that timer feature that helps kids read for a certain amount of time. It also can be set to turn off, so kids don’t use it for too long. If you want control, the Kindle is perfect.
Desirability
Preschoolers already know what an iPad is, and they usually know there is a difference between it and a tablet. If you own an iPhone, the iPad is the closest thing to it. This ends up making it easy for your child to use. Tablets are second best, but they offer some benefits over the iPad.
Just think about what you truly want out of a tablet for your child, and go with your gut when deciding what he or she will like. It’s likely that whatever you choose, your child will love it.
It truly will be the best and most used toy you ever buy your child.
