We recently received an iPad that had a good deal of damage from an owner from out in the city of Great Falls in the beautiful state of Virginia. The owner told us that the device had been dropped, which resulted in a cracked screen and dented backplate. He requested that we fully repair the unit and then test it for complete functionality to make sure that no other internal or external damage had occurred during the fall that was less obvious.
When we took a look at the black 64 GB iPad 2 with 3G, it was immediately clear that the glass digitizer was broken, and the dents and damage to the backplate was obvious. We could also see that the plastic bezel was damaged, which is the plastic frame that surrounds the glass and sits on the aluminum frame. We performed an iPad repair, replacing the digitizer and plastic bezel as well as bending out the backplate to reform it properly.
While bending out the backplate does lead to some stress marks, this is the more cost efficient option since it means the owner will not need to purchase any additional parts. Plus, this type of repair will still allow the iPad to function properly. However, if a customer prefers to have an iPad that looks like it came straight from the box and is brand new, the backplate can easily be replaced with a new one.
We understand that not everyone has the same preferences when it comes to repairing their devices, so we leave it up to the customer's discretion when deciding how extensive of a repair they would like.
