Battery problems plaguing some iPhone 5S owners

How-to Repairs

Having a smartphone with a fast-draining battery is a fact of life for many owners, a problem that is a bit more pronounced for those who frequently use their devices throughout the day. However, some of the new iPhone 5S units are losing their charge quicker than normal. Apple Insider reported that Apple has found defects in a select number of these devices and is trying to rectify the situation.

The problem is a defective battery that drains quicker and doesn't charge very well. According to Apple, it is a relatively small problem, with only around one percent of iPhones 5S devices having the issue. They are currently offering iPhone replacements for all users affected.

“We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life,” the company said in a statement. “We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.”

However, if an owner feels that it really isn't an issue with the phone, it could be smart for them to pick up a portable charger. A new device that uses the energy from walking will be available to consumers soon, Gizbot reported.

The device named Genno can be used to charge any number of smartphones or tablets. Owners can either shake it or walk with it to produce a charge that can then be transferred to a smartphone, tablet or camera. According to researchers, the prototype will allow iPhone users to charge their phone to the max after walking two and a half miles.
