Who doesn't like a phone that is always up for a little conversation? Apple's “Siri,” the talkative electronic assistant built into newer Apple iPhones, is making its way into General Motors' new infotainment systems. USA Today recently reported that GM's new systems in its two smallest cars, the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic, will be linked to Siri.
Drivers of these vehicles will be able to use the voice-activated Siri from behind the wheel by pairing the iPhone and the car's infotainment system using Bluetooth, in order to perform tasks usually done on their smartphones. The news source indicated that this new feature highlights how automakers are working to keep up with the latest smartphone technology advances in their car models.
“By using phone-powered apps for the dash, they run less risk than in using built-in, captive technology of having cars that feel outdated in a few years as technology marches on,” wrote Chris Woodyard for USA Today.
In addition, drivers of these two vehicles will also have a $50 phone app available to them to power a full-featured, in-dash navigation system.
