Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Didn't you used to be MacResQ?
Yes, and in sprit we still are! No change in ownership, no change in management, no change in procedure; rather we have changed our name to consolidate our many different trade names into one single, solitary strong brand name. iResQ embodies the wide range of repairs we offer, and it's condusive to future repairs services.

  2. Which Desktop Computer models do you repair?
This program covers Mac Minis and Apple TV's.

  3. Why don't you work on G5 Towers or other PowerMacs?
Frankly it is not cost effective to ship these bigger, heavier units around the country. We have tried this program in the past and shipping costs prohibit many mail-in units. Mac Minis and Apple TVs are a perfect fit for our business!

  4. What does the initial fee cover?
The overnight flat-rate fee covers the cost of the PowerBox (which you get to keep for future use), the 3-way overnight shipping (from us to you, you to us and back to you), and the time for an iResQ Technician to perform an expedited detailed diagnosis of your Mac Mini or Apple TV. Most repair shops will leave your computer sitting on the shelf for a week or more before they even look at it! An iResQ Technician will contact you with a complete diagnosis and then your repair is completed within 24 hours of receipt, depending on the service you choose. Units requiring special order parts or experiencing intermittent problems may require additional repair time.

  5. I'm not in a hurry. Do you offer a lower-priced service?
If you want iResQ's repair expertise, but you don't need 24-hour turnaround, we also offer a self mail in box service where you mail in your unit yourself and we will call you within 24 hours of receipt. This service is identical to our Overnight service except for the time it takes you to ship it in to us.

  6. What do you mean when you say "next day"? Does this include weekends and holidays?
When we say "next day", "overnight", etc. we are referring to business days. Generally business days are Monday through Friday. We are closed on the weekends and major holidays. So, if you place an overnight order on a Friday, you will not receive your item until Monday. We do offer Saturday delivery in most cases for an additional fee.

  7. How do I know what additional charges I will incur to get my unit repaired?
Since we want to give you the most accurate and inexpensive estimate that we can, we need to personally diagnose what is wrong with your unit before we can give you a repair estimate. For example, we can't tell if your problem is due to a $300 part or a $100 cable unless we take your unit apart.

  8. Do I need to back up my hard drive before shipping my Computer?
If you are able to back up your data, then you should definitely do so. iResQ is not responsible for data integrity. If data handling and/or data recovery are needed as part of a repair, they will be charged at the regular rate of $85/hour.

  9. Do I need to send in my peripherals, AC adapter, or original Mac OS CD-ROMs?
Generally no. If you are experiencing a problem that involves a peripheral, or a power problem that you suspect is related to your AC adapter then you should include them with the unit.

  10. Once you diagnose the problem with my unit, am I obligated to pay for the repair?
No. If you decide not to have your Mac MIni or Apple TV repaired, we'll overnight it back to you in the PowerBox. There will be no charges other than the initial fee. We also buy these units to salvage parts from, so if you don't want to invest in the repair costs, it's possible that we may be interested in purchasing your defective unit. Ask the Technician who contacts you for additional details.

  11. Can you upgrade my Mac Mini or Apple TV for me while you're fixing it?
Yes, upgrades such as hard drives and memory are always available! We'll let you know what upgrades are available for your unit. We do not upgrade operating system software as a matter of course, but this service can be performed at the regular hourly rate.

  12. Can I trade my Mac Mini or Apple TV for a newer model?
We often accept computers for purchase. Please ask your salesperson for more information.

  13. Have you guys really repaired over 50,000 Macs?
Absolutely, 100%! We've repaired and refurbished over 50,000 Macs for resale and for our customers since 1994.

  14. How long is the warranty on the items you repair?
Our standard warranty for parts repaired on your unit is 90 days.

  15. How long do I have to decide if I want my Portable repaired?
Once we receive your Portable, we will contact you with a repair quote and you will have up to 90 days to approve or decline your repair. Portables left at our facility for more than 90 days will be deemed abandonded and automatically recycled. Please remember that recycled Portables CANNOT be sent back to you!
